Contea Crimson Clover (Trifolium incarnatum), also known as Italian clover, is a fast-growing annual plant primarily used for pasture forage and green manure. It is typically sown in autumn for an early spring harvest, providing protein-rich feed for livestock. This variety is deep rooting and also an excellent nitrogen fixer, soil improver, and weed suppressor making it a valuable choice for sustainable farming.

  • Fixes large amounts of nitrogen to enrich soil fertility
  • Fast-growing with deep roots that improve soil structure
  • Excellent forage for grazing livestock in autumn or spring, especially when mixed with Westerwold or Italian Ryegrass
  • Protein-rich feed for improved animal nutrition
  • Weed suppression due to its dense growth
  • Premium nectar source for bees and pollinators
  • Ideal for dry, sandy-loam soils with slightly acidic or neutral pH
  • Mostly winter-hardy when sown at the back end of the season
  • Used as green manure for improving soil quality and structure especially when combined with other annual clovers for enhanced soil benefits
